Hosting & server log files

This website runs on a server I rent from netcup GmbH, Daimlerstraße 25, 76185 Karlsruhe, Germany. The server is located in a data centre in Vienna, Austria, so processing takes place exclusively within the European Union. netcup provides the infrastructure and processes your data as a processor; a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place. The web server and all services running on it are operated by me.

When you access the pages, information is automatically stored in so-called server log files (e.g. IP address, date and time of access, page accessed, volume of data transferred, browser type). This data is used solely for the technical provision and security of the website and is not merged with other data sources. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure operation). Log files are stored only for as long as is necessary for these purposes and are then deleted automatically.

Cookies & local storage

This website uses no cookies and no tracking technologies. Only if you switch the colour scheme (light/dark) via the toggle in the navigation is this setting stored locally in your browser (localStorage; § 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG - strictly necessary). This information remains on your device and is not transmitted to me or to third parties.

Fonts

This website uses locally stored fonts only. No data is transferred to external providers such as Google Fonts.

Contact & contact form

If you send me an enquiry via the contact form, email or phone, I process the information you provide in order to handle your request. In the contact form this is your name, your email address and your message, plus - optionally - your company and phone number. I will not pass this data on without your consent. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR (initiation/performance of a contract) or (f) GDPR. The data is deleted as soon as it is no longer required for processing and no statutory retention obligations apply.

The form is handled by a service I operate myself on the server named above. Your details are not stored there permanently but forwarded straight to my mailbox by email. Only if the email delivery fails is the enquiry buffered temporarily on the server so that it is not lost, and it is deleted once your request has been handled.

Spam protection in the contact form (CAPTCHA)

To protect the contact form against automated messages, you are asked to solve a simple arithmetic question (CAPTCHA). It is generated and verified by my own server. No third-party service such as Google reCAPTCHA or hCaptcha is used, no data is transferred to third parties for this purpose, and no cookies are set.

When the form loads, the server generates an arithmetic question and a matching encrypted token. That token contains only the expected result, an expiry time and a random value - no personal data and no identifier of your device. It is valid for ten minutes and can be used exactly once; to enforce this, a checksum (hash) of the token is stored on the server for no longer than its validity period and deleted afterwards. The form also contains a field that is invisible to you and is only filled in by automated programs. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in preventing spam and misuse).

SSL/TLS encryption

For security reasons, this site uses SSL/TLS encryption. You can recognise an encrypted connection by the "https://" in your browser's address bar.

Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR)

You have the right to object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to the processing of personal data concerning you that is carried out on the basis of Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. If I cannot demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing that override your interests, rights and freedoms, the data concerned will no longer be processed for these purposes.

Your rights

You have the right at any time to information, rectification, erasure and restriction of the processing of your stored data, as well as a right to data portability and objection. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise these rights, please contact me using the details given above.
